Look again
The online course is developed in co-operation between Talent Norge, Music Norway and Balansekunst, with financial support from Sparebankstiftelsen DnB and Norsk Tipping.
Arts and culture needs many different voices, perspectives, stories and expressions.
We want a cultural sector that reflects the entire population. It's about everyone having the same opportunities. Everyone in society should be able to find role models to look up to, and everyone should be able to feel equally safe and free to create in the arts and creative industries.
It is also about creating the best possible art and culture. Art should inspire, move, entertain and teach us things about ourselves and the world around us. Therefore, it's important that the arts sector feels accessible, relevant and inclusive for everyone, so that we get all the stories from all the talents, and can experience art and culture with many different perspectives.
The course is called Look Again. We found the idea behind the name in the word respect, which comes from the Latin respectare, which means 'look again' and 'take into account'.
Recruitment processes sometimes run a bit on autopilot. We often make assessments and decisions based on what and who we already know. It's important to pause and reflect.
Don't limit recruitment to your own network, and don't let a narrow definition of competence and quality limit assessments. To ensure a representative, rich and inclusive industry, we need to see and talk about various barriers, avoid autopilot, take more into account, and look again.
In this online course we present
- Figures: Does Norwegian cultural life reflect society? What does research say about discrimination in Norwegian labour market?
- Concepts: We define the concepts of diversity, equality, bias, privilege and diversity competence.
- Legislation: What does the law say about diversity and recruitment?
- Tips: How to think diversity in hiring processes and jury work?
- Reflection: What do we need to be aware of?
The goal of the online course is to create a common framework for conversation in recruitment processes. The course is designed for hiring committees, boards, committees and juries – and anyone interested in learning more about diversity and recruitment.
